fallow

This beautiful species of deer were introduced to New Zealand (from Europe) in the 1860's.  They are very distinctive due to their palmated antlers and very aggressive fighting during the rut period of April/May each year.

Our herds have different colour phases.  These range from white, spotted menil to coal black.  Fallow are fun to hunt - when in rut, they "croak" like a bullfrog.
